The Ultimate Comfort Food in Seoul: Authentic Pork Bone Soup at Bong-i Ppyeo-hae-jang-guk

by The Amie 2026. 1. 19.

Hi everyone, it's Amie, your local friend in Korea!👋

Are you craving something warm, hearty, and deeply satisfying? Today, I’m taking you to one of my favorite local spots in Gangdong-gu, Seoul: Bong-i Ppyeo-hae-jang-guk. This place is famous for its rich, deep broth and meat that literally falls off the bone. It's the ultimate comfort food for locals! 🍲✨

If you see a line when you arrive, don't worry! There is a waiting board near the entrance. You just need to write down your name and the number of people in your group. Since the restaurant is a bit cozy and small, it’s best to visit alone or in a small group (up to 4 people). If you have a larger group, I'd recommend ordering takeout to enjoy it comfortably at home or your hotel! ✍️📋

Catching the vibe of a true local favorite! Make sure to arrive right after the break time to skip the long wait.
Look at that generous portion! This rich broth is the perfect cure for a chilly day or a long day of sightseeing. 🍖🔥

The menu here is very simple, which I love because it means they focus on quality. There isn't an English menu, and you'll need to order directly from the staff. Don't be nervous, though! Here’s a quick guide to choosing your portion:

  • Standard (3 bones): 11,000 KRW (Perfect for a normal appetite)
  • Small (2 bones): 10,000 KRW (Great if you're not super hungry)
  • Special (5 bones): 17,000 KRW (For the true meat lovers!) 😋👍

To help you order like a local, here’s a simple Korean tip

  • If you want the 2-bone version: "Ppyeo-hae-jang-guk jakungeol ro juseyo." (2-bone soup, please!)
  • 뼈해장국(뼈 2개) 짜리로 주세요.
  • If you want the 3-bone version: "Ppyeo-hae-jang-guk ilban juseyo." (3-bone soup, please!)
  • 뼈해장국(뼈 3개) 짜리로 주세요.
  • If you want the 5-bone version: "Ppyeo-hae-jang-guk Teuk eu ro juseyo." (5-bone soup, please!)
  • 뼈해장국 특(뼈 5개) 짜리로 주세요.

Just a heads-up for my friends with dietary needs: this is a very traditional pork-based dish, so there are no Vegan, Gluten-free, or Halal options available. Also, if you’re sensitive to the cold, try to grab a seat further inside because the door opens frequently for takeout customers! ❄️🧤

The side dishes are just as important! Their radish kimchi is the perfect tangy pair for the savory soup. 🥬🥢

If you're driving, there's an underground parking lot in the building. They provide 2 hours of free parking, but make sure to tell the staff your car number before you leave! This place is also perfect for Solo Dining (Honbap), so don't hesitate to go alone and enjoy a bowl with a cold drink. 🚗💨
